Overview
The Music Department offers a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.), with concentrations in performance, jazz studies, and a Master of Music in Piano degree.

Bachelor of Music

Music majors interested in Wisconsin teaching certification complete a one-year, post baccalaureate program in instrumental, general and choral music education.

Performance – Students develop their instrumental or vocal performance skills through applied study with artist teachers, solo recital, chamber and large ensemble performance opportunities, and music theory and history coursework designed to integrate knowledge with performance skills.

Jazz Studies – This program centers on jazz improvisation, jazz theory and history, and performance style, taught by the area’s top performing jazz artists. Jazz majors are mentored through the professional artistic experiences and knowledge and skills of their instructors.

Post B.Mus. Music Education Certification – This program prepares the music major for teaching at the elementary and secondary level with concentrations in choral, instrumental or general music. The Music Education Certification program follows a portfolio assessment process to achieve the teacher certification standards of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Master of Arts in Teaching - Degreed students who wish to obtain certification as a music teacher may do so as part of the Master of Arts in Teaching program. In addition to completing requirements for Wisconsin certification, students will be required to take additional music course work as necessary to achieve music department proficiency requirements and content standards.

Concert Choir, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra and Handbell Choir are open by audition to all Stritch students with consent of the director. Non-music majors who register for the choir, chamber orchestra, wind ensemble or handbell choir may qualify by audition for a Music Performance Scholarship.

Music Minor - The Music Minor prepares students to supplement their major and broaden their marketable skills upon graduation. The knowledge and insights gained through music study can lead to enhanced credentials and career opportunities, especially in the field of education.

The Music Department offers the general student opportunities for attaining musical knowledge and enjoyment through a variety of courses in music appreciation, history and literature.

Master of Music in Piano

The Master of Music in Piano at Stritch is designed to develop highly advanced performance skills, foster a strong commitment to teaching, and engage students in the promotion of music. Through the program, you will develop excellent teaching skills that provide quality teaching for future musicians in various age groups and motivate them for continual improvement and lifelong learning.
