South Shore Conservatory incorporated in 1970 as a non-degree granting community music school in Hingham, Massachusetts after previously serving as a satellite preparatory program run by the New England Conservatory of Music. Since its inception, the Conservatory has remained faithful to its mission to provide community access to quality education in the performing arts in the belief that there’s something in the performing arts for everyone. This belief has attracted a wide range of arts enthusiasts, from gifted and talented students with aspirations for careers in the arts, to those who choose arts activities for their leisure time. In 1980, a second campus was established in Duxbury, Massachusetts, first in rented facilities, and finally, in 1997, in its present home at the Ellison Center for the Arts. The Arts Partners outreach program, the Conservatory’s "third campus," began in 1999, and provides performing arts instruction in South Shore schools, colleges and organizations without access to quality arts education.
