Personal Statement
Beginning Guitar
With an introduction to the world of guitar, the fundamental skills common to all styles will be covered: reading music/tablature, playing chords and chord progressions, using the right hand for strumming and finger picking (pima), barré chords, basic theory and musicianship.

Popular, Folk and Classical guitar styles will be integrated into our weekly lessons. It is the goal of these first few weeks to supply each student with a foundation of understanding that will allow them to progress in the musical direction of their choice.

Intermediate Guitar
For the student who has developed a foundation of basic skills, and is interested in applying more advanced playing techniques and music theory.

Lessons tend to last an hour in length and focus on tone production and/or the use of nails, exploring what is necessary to maintain the fundamental moves of the right hand; developing the left hand, i.e. slurs, stretching, shifting and scales; paying greater attention to the articulation, dynamics, tone color and overall artistry of the guitar.

Advanced Guitar
For the advanced guitarist looking to improve both their technique and musicianship, advanced guitar lessons are also geared toward the pre-college guitarist wishing to declare themselves a music major/minor, who must first prepare for an entrance audition.

Excerpts, etudes, more advanced repertoire and sight reading include a few of the finer points intended to foster a more complete guitarist.

Group Lessons
In addition to individual progress, groups of 4 or more will have an opportunity to develop their performance skills in an ensemble setting of guitar duets, trios and quartets. This cooperative approach helps to create a fun and supportive environment, where students learn at a group pace while working with a level of material appropriate to each owns individual skills.
Education / Training
Luke Trimble is an award-winning classical guitarist based in Honolulu, Hawaii. Under the direction of renowned composer and guitarist Bryan Johanson, Luke graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Music from Portland State University. He has performed in masterclasses with many of world’s finest guitarists, including Thibault Cauvin, Michael Partington, James Reid, and Ana Vidovic. He was awarded First Prize, alongside fellow guitarists Mario Diaz and Jesse McCann, for their trio’s performance at the 2007 University of Texas Brownsville Ensemble Guitar Competition. Luke was also a semifinalist in the 2011 Portland International Solo Guitar Competition.

An advocate of new music, he continues to promote the performance and commission of solo and chamber works for guitar by West Coast composers. This is highlighted by the frequent performance of music by Bryan Johanson, Lou Harrison, Terry Riley, and Ralph Towner among others. Luke has been featured on Hawaii Public Radio. He has performed with members of the Honolulu Symphony, the Air Force Band of the Pacific, the UH Contemporary Music Ensemble, and numerous chamber players.

Luke is also an active arranger and pedagogue. With a strong background in K-12 Music Education he can be found teaching students of all ages in both private and classroom settings. He has guest lectured at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. From 2009 to 2011, he served as Director of Education at The Kailua Music School and continues to maintain a busy schedule of students.
