Personal Statement
My ultimate goal as a teacher is to assist my students to make the most beautiful sound they are capable of, regardless of ability, by focusing on the voice as an instrument that needs muscular exercise and training. My pedagogy offers a student the maximum ability to manifest their musical and artistic vision through calisthenics for the entire voice. I am in love with the art of singing. There is nothing more important than teaching a singer how to use their voice to create musical art of any style.

Teaching vocal technique is the foundation of my work with my students. Learning the art of singing involves a thorough understanding of structural alignment of the whole body (good posture), knowledge of the muscles used in inspiration and expiration for breath support (solid breath), the function of the laryngeal muscles (vocal folds), and exploring and eventually integrating the registers (including, learning of belt technique). The singer also needs to understand the proper use of vowels and articulation. Vocal style and artistry develop from the ability to properly use the voice.

The current marketplace creates huge demands on singers both vocally, and in terms of the type of material that is necessary to create a competitive book for auditioning. As a Singer, Songwriter, Pop and Jazz vocalist, my knowledge of contemporary material from the 50’s through the present is extensive. I assist my students in choosing the best material for their voices, as well as the most unique tunes from the musical theatre, jazz, pop and rock-n-roll canons.
