Personal Statement

After receiving training from a number of vocal teachers, who all thought their rigid set of techniques were the "right" techniques, I am here to say, there is no right way to sing. The only right way to sing is the way that allows you to healthily achieve the aesthetic you desire. I never understand when trained singers tell me that those airy-sounding indie vocalists canít sing. If they sound exactly how they want to sound without hurting their voice, they can sing. Think of vocal technique as a means to an endóa toolbox you can use to attain a certain sound. It should never be anything else. Please donít get me wrong, of course there are techniques that span genre gaps, i.e. breathing, and similarly, there are techniques that you would never want to use; however, there is definitely no be-all, end-all set of techniques to rule them all.

So next time you decide you want to sing Iron Maiden, I get it. You donít want to sound like a broadway star; or a bel canto opera singer; or Jack Johnson. Or maybe you do. Thatís okay too.

Education / Training

Molly has been a musician for over 20 years. She was trained in vocal technique by Andrew Boettner and Bruce McClurg and studied vocal performance techniques in New York City under vocal coach, Jay Bradley. She was also classically trained in piano by teachers Rizia Lin and Ron Anderson and has progressed up to level 10 in the Certificate of Merit program in Piano.

In 1999 and 2000, she apprenticed at Ann Reinkingís famous Broadway Theatre Project, where she trained with such notables as Julie Andrews, Gwen Verdon, and Ben Vereen.

In the summer of 2008, Molly toured Italy singing with a choir that performed at the Duomo in Milan, St. Markís Basilica in Venice, and St. Peterís Basilica and the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. The tour concluded when the choir performed for Pope Benedict XVI.
