Personal Statement

I believe that a good teacher is someone who tries to adapt to each of his or her students' individual interests and personalities. So often, you find teachers stuck in a teaching method similar to the way they had been taught. However, not everyone learns the same way. Every student has a different way of processing information, and unless your teacher attempts to deliver that information in a manner that is easiest for you to absorb, you as the student, are left not only to learn, but to translate as well.

I am currently a full-time jazz performance student at Berklee College of Music, and have been teaching and playing professionally for the past 8 years. Since I began playing, I put a lot of time and interest into studying a variety of music genres including blues, jazz, classic rock, blue-grass, metal, indie-alternative, math rock, classical, renaissance, Caribbean, Brazilian, Afro Cuban and more.

I have experience teaching students of all ages, from 5 to 55; no matter what anyone may say, its really never too late to learn something new. Everyone develops at their own rate, and there is never any reason to be ashamed of what you do or don't know.

If you'd like to find out a little more about me, check out my website and/or feel free to send me an email or call between 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

Differentiate your services

What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

You will want to ask for the instructors resume and if they have anywhere you may hear them playing their instrument. If you have not yet spoken with them over the phone, request to speak with them so that you can get a better feel for their personality. If you have no previous knowledge of the person but you feel they may be a good fit for you, try a lesson. If at the end of your lesson you feel like they don't really fit with where you want to go with your studies you can always look for somebody new.

What do you like most about your job?

One of the greatest rewards of teaching is watching your students grow as musicians and people throughout the time that you spend with them. I have found that even though you may be the teacher, your students are usually teaching you just as much. Learning to play the drum set is like any other instrument. Every limb must move independently and to train your body to do so you must approach the study differently than any other practice. You have to let go of your analytical thoughts, and let your body move independently of your mind, just following the sounds.

What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

I will do everything I can to steer my students in the direction of interest they wish to follow. If I feel after trying all that I can that I am not able to give them the knowledge they desire I will do my best to refer them to another teacher.

If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

I will also give 30 minute lessons or longer 2 hour lessons depending on your scheduling and learning needs or interest level.

Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

I believe that a good teacher is someone who tries to adapt to each of their students individual interests and personalities. So often you find teachers stuck in a teaching method similar to the way they had been taught. But not everyone learns the same way. Every student has a different way of processing information, and unless your teacher attempts to deliver that information in a manner that is easiest for you to absorb, you as the student are left not only to learn, but to translate as well.
