Personal Statement

My goal as a teacher is to help my students gain important musical, technical, and collaborative skills, as well as a love and appreciation of music in all its forms. I use both the Suzuki and traditional methods in my teaching because each student is unique and has different learning styles. As a teacher, I strive to be a mentor in instructing and inspiring my students. I teach because I love seeing my students learn, grow, and make progress as musicians and as people. I look forward to working with each new student.

Education / Training

Emily has been playing the violin for 21 years, studying both Suzuki and traditional methods. Emily has studied with great violin teachers, such as Kathryn Kunz, Judy Rich, Jack Ashton, and Rebecca McFaul (Fry Street Quartet). She has performed with several different orchestras for the last 12 years, including the USU Symphony Orchestra and the American Festival Chorus and Orchestra. As well as orchestral music, Emily has also been a member of many string quartets, a piano quintet, and a piano trio. She was accepted to attend a chamber music festival in Italy, where she performed with musicians from all over the United States and Italy.

Emily received her Bachelor of Music degree from USU in Violin Performance. As well as working with the nationally-acclaimed Fry Street Quartet, Emily had the opportunity to work with guest artists, such as the Calder String Quartet, Professor Brian Finlayson (University of Carinthia), the Perlman-Bailey-Schmidt Trio, Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, the Pacifica Quartet, and Andres Cardenes (former concertmaster, Pittsburg Orchestra). Emily was selected as a winner of the Concerto Competition, and performed the Kabalevsky Violin Concerto with the USU Symphony Orchestra.

Emily has been teaching private lessons for seven years and loves it! As well as teaching private lessons, Emily was a violin instructor for the USU String Academy. She also worked as an Orchestra Teacherís Assistant at River Heights Elementary School, and loved working with the students.
