Personal Statement
Hello, I'm Jana Cole. I have over 20 years teaching music, and a Master's in Composition and Piano Performance. I think most composition students have a difficult time with composition when they don't know certain basic concepts that apply no matter what style of music you're composing. I can help you learn to keep these important concepts in mind as you're composing, to bring out your unique style. If you have any questions or you would like me to guide you in your composing, all you have to do is contact me. At this time, I'm offering my guidance free of charge to dedicated composers of all levels. A little more about me:

I began playing piano at age 5, had classical lessons into high school and learned jazz in college. I listened to all kinds of music as a child - Bach to Bartok to Beetles. I studied harmony, theory and ethnomusicology at U.C. Berkeley, commercial arranging and film music at Berklee College of Music, and traditional composition and piano performance at New York University. I have a Level 10 Royal Conservatory of Music certificate in piano performance. These days, I compose mostly for piano, my first love and still my greatest love. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, in Pacifica.

On iTunes I have a podcast called New Piano Music. It's a free, weekly podcast.
Find my show, New Piano Music, on iTunes (easiest), or here's the RSS feed:

You may wonder why I have the domain name MetaphorGames. The reason is that I see music as a fun, playful game.

I am considering taking lessons. Please contact me with further information. Thank you.
