Personal Statement
I believe in every student’s potential for great things as long as he or she puts in good, smarter rather than harder, work. I take great pride and enjoyment in the teaching process, and my students pride themselves on not only their individual achievements but those of their fellow cellists in the studio.

Testimonial: "Sam Boase-Miller has all the traits that you'd want for private cello instruction: he is a beautifully trained player with the ability to either instruct the fundamentals or focus on the essence of a piece to ensure that a performance truly shines. Sam is enthusiastic about the student's progress and he is not afraid to challenge students to help them achieve their full potential." -Heather R.
Education / Training
A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Sam Boase-Miller began his cello studies at age nine. He graduated with honors from Interlochen Arts Academy and then spent many years as a roaming cello student from Ithaca, NY studying with Elizabeth Simkin, to Chicago, IL under the tutelage of Brant Taylor of the Chicago Symphony, then back to Kalamazoo, teaching alongside and studying with his former teachers Grace Field and Bruce Uchimura.

A new music advocate, Sam received the highest reviews for his performance of the solo cello part in Karel Husa’s “Cayuga Lake (Memories),” under the guidance of Dr. Husa himself. Sam spent a year performing on Holland America Line Cruises as the cellist of their number one string ensemble, The Adagio Strings Quartet.

Sam also has a great love for musicals and has collaborated with Broadway artists Scott Burkell and Paul Loesel on their cabaret music as well as in the Mid-West premier of their off-Broadway musical “The Extraordinary Ordinary.”

Sam is currently a resident of New York City and plays numerous shows with his band Met City. He is the principal cellist of the Manhattan Symphonie, whose recent performances took him on a two-week tour of China as well as performing Verdi’s Requiem at Carnegie Hall with the Yokohama City Choir.
