Personal Statement

I have been giving private lessons in guitar, bass, and piano for over 14 years. We also offer voice lessons. All ages are welcome. I am a NJ state certified music teacher. My degree is in Music Management and Classical Guitar from William Paterson University. Right now, in addition to teaching music lessons, I substitute teach during the school-year, I am the Director of a summer music camp called Vacation Music Academy, and the Director of the Junior Choir at St. Andrew's Church in Mt. Holly. I was the guitar instructor at the JCC Camps at Medford during the summer, where I taught classes of up to eight students and organize performances.

I am seasoned as a music performer. The rock band that I play in is called Hall of Mirrors and we perform a brand of somewhat grandiose original music. We also perform a Harry Chapin tribute concert once a year on/around my birthday for which we hire a professional 'cellist and rename the band "Potent Voices." This year's concert is approaching fast - June 28 at 7:00 pm at St. Andrew's Church parish house (121 High St. Mt. Holly, NJ)and I strongly urge any music fan to attend whether you are familiar with Chapin's work or not. There is no cover charge, but we are asking for donations to raise money for World Hunger Year.

I also perform as a classical guitarist having performed at weddings/receptions, coffee houses, and retirement communities. Recently I played in a Genesis tribute band called Firth of Fifth, for which I played a double neck 6-string/12-string guitar.

As a private instructor, my strength is in my knowledge of the sequence of skills needed to be aquired to play music well, my ability to customize my teaching style to the needs/interests of the student, and the attention to detail which is needed to get the student to improve to the next level.

Since I teach guitar and bass, some of you may inquire as to my opinion on the importance of reading notes. In my lessons I strongly advocate sight-reading and all other educational components that will provide the student the opportunity to study music in college or to play with other schooled musicians. However, I also advocate the importance of you, as the student, playing the music which made you want you to play your instrument in the first place, and as a guitar/bass instructor I am comfortable working with chord charts and tablature when the student wishes to play something which is not yet within his/her sight-reading knowledge.

If you are interested in taking lessons, I hope to hear from you soon.
