Education / Training

Eric Schultz teaches and performs regularly in the NYC Metro, and currently resides on Long Island. He is a doctoral candidate, studying Clarinet Performance at Stony Brook University while serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Eric Schultz studies with Alan Kay (Orpheus Chamber Ensemble, Julliard, Manhattan School of Music). In May of 2015, Eric completed his Master of Music degree in clarinet performance as a School of Music Fellow, studying with Alexander Fiterstein at the University of Minnesota. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire studying music performance and pedagogy with Dr. Melissa Koprowski.

Music performance has brought Eric to Europe on several occasions, most recently to the Czech Republic for the summer orchestral festival Prague Summer Nights, where he was a fellow and one of two clarinetists selected to attend. He had the opportunity to study privately with Walter Seyfarth of the Berlin Philharmonic, Ludmila PeterkovŠ of the Prague Conservatoire, and perform in a masterclass with Rodney Friend, former concertmaster of both the London and NY Philharmonic. He also served as rehearsal soloist with the orchestra for Mozartís Concerto before Walter Seyfarth arrived in Prague.

Eric's multiple woodwind background has allowed him many opportunities to perform in musical theater settings. Most recently, Eric performed the Reed 1 book for Nice Work If You Can Get It, the Broadway Musical on National Tour. He has also toured around the country with groups such as the jazz vocal quintet Five by Design (based in Minneapolis) and the Frank Sinatra impersonator Steve Lippia (based in Las Vegas).

Eric is very committed to music education. He has maintained his own private studio of about 20 students for the past seven years. He also recently served on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, where he coached a woodwind trio, directed the clarinet choir, led the weekly studio class, and taught 15 private (undergraduate) lessons weekly, including additional high school students considering UW - Eau Claire.

Eric currently serves as a teaching assistant during his doctoral studies at Stony Brook University. In the past year his classes have included MUS 101: Intro to Music with Dr. Ryan Minor, the Director of Graduate Studies, and MUS 109: Rock, Pop Music, and Society, with Dr. Benjamin Tausig. There were 200 students enrolled in each course.
