Personal Statement
I am a passionate cello teacher as well an avid performer. I have been teaching privately for nine years and have held a university teaching position for the past two years. My main focus as a teacher and performer is creating a well-rounded musician and not just an instrumentalist. This past May, I completed my Masterís of Music in Cello Performance. As a performer, I have held several full-time orchestra chair positions and performed as a chamber musician throughout the United States and Italy.
For the past two years I have held a teaching position at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University. During my time at the university I taught undergraduate and graduate cello lessons as well as music history and orchestral repertoire lecture courses. I also have a great amount of experience teaching performance-injury seminars and lecture series both for students interested in injury prevention and post-injured students. While holding this university position I also ran and taught a low strings program at a local elementary school for two years. I ran, taught, and directed all private and group cello classes with beginners ranging in ages 4 to 12. My experience with a wide range of age groups has made me a very flexible and sensitive teacher. My lessons are all focused around each individual student. I strive to make each lesson both educational, expressive, and fun!
