Personal Statement
It is important that a student be taught correctly. As a conductor, and in order to teach correctly, I made sure to study with the finest teachers I could find, who I knew taught correctly. It is not how many teachers one studies with, but that they teach correctly. The sax teachers I studied with were the best in the business in both Classical and Jazz. On clarinet I studied with Clement Hutchinson, who was Arey's best student and taught with him at Eastman in the 30's. Arey had studied with Amelotte, who came from Paris, having learned there the correct teaching of clarinet. With flute my two teachers were only 2 to 3 steps removed from Taffanel, the founder of the French Flute School and were in total agreement so it checked that the concepts were the same. In general what is called the French Flute School today is vastly removed from what Tafanel taught. In Brasses I studied with Claude Gordon, who taught exactly what Clarke taught. Dr Gordon revised a number of books BACK to what the original authors like Clarke, Arban and St Jacome taught. The publishers had changed the books to fit popular fads of the day instead of staying with the original CORRECT teaching of these great masters.
We have had both Dr Gordon and the great Professor Stephen Adelstein, on oboe, teach with me in our studios and consequently, we have always had the best of woodwind and brass concepts and performance in the students we have turned out.

I am considering taking lessons. Please contact me with further information. Thank you.
