Personal Statement
Violinist Lionel Thomas graduated with a Master of Music degree from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. He also received his Bachelor of Music cum laude and completed two years of doctoral studies at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. He has taught and studied internationally, and currently has a private studio in Newark, Delaware.

At the studio of Lionel Thomas, students have the opportunity to take individual and group lessons. Music theory and aural skills training is also available.

All levels from beginning through advanced are welcomed.
Education / Training
Violinist Lionel Thomas is a professional violinst and teacher currently residing in Newark, Delware. As a former Doctor of Musical Arts student at the University of Oregon, Lionel has an emphasis in violin performance and string pedagogy. In 2009 Mr. Thomas received his Master of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) as a student of Kurt Sassmannshaus. While a graduate student in Cincinnati, Mr. Thomas taught on faculty of CCM Prep and the Sassmannshaus Tradition. Mr. Thomas earned Bachelor of Music degrees cum laude in violin performance and music education from the University of Oregon in 2007, studying with Kathryn Lucktenberg.

Formerly, Mr. Thomas performed with the Eugene Symphony and taught at Community Music Institute at the University of Oregon. Throughout his teaching career, students of his have been awarded scholarships to further their musical study and earned marks of honor on Royal Conservatory of Music practical exams. Prior to joining the faculty of CMI, Mr. Thomas taught a studio of violin students of varying ages and abilities at the Bermuda School of Music.

Mr. Thomas is a former scholarship student of the Aspen Music Festival and School (2006 and 2012) and was a recipient of an American Suzuki Institute Schinichi Suzuki Teacher-Training Scholarship in 2008. Mr. Thomas is an active member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and has completed teacher training for violin books 1 through 6. Plans for the future include more teacher training at institutes and workshops.
