Personal Statement
Both teaching and performing have always been a large part of my life. Even as early as high school (Kiev State R.M.Gliere Higher College of music), I was already conducting private lessons and directing the wind ensemble. And it was at the St.Petersburg Conservatory in Russia, that I received my Masters Degree in Music Education, Performance and Conducting.
During the period from 1977-89, I held the position of principal Clarinet in the St.Petersburg Symphony and Kiev State Opera orchestras. At the same time, I worked as a professor at the Kiev State Music Academy.
When I immigrated to the US in 1989, I pursued various performance opportunities and was even offered a position in “The President’s Own” military band in Washington, DC. Unfortunately, due to extenuating circumstances, was unable to accept the employment. However, during all these years, I managed to maintain private clarinet lessons within the Tri-state area. I have been, and continue, to dedicate myself to motivational and implementation strategies that engage students in active learning, as well as, help to enrich their lives with music and the arts, whether or not they choose them as professions for the future.
