Personal Statement

Education / Training
Michael T. DeFilippis (b. 1991) is a composer residing on Long Island. He is pursuing a BM in Music Education at LIU Post where he plays trumpet in the LIU Post Wind Ensemble and the LIU Post Wind Symphony. Michael currently studies composition with renowned educational composer Carl Strommen, and trumpet with Brad Siroky. Michael has had several works commissioned from him, including works for the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College Brass Ensemble, and more recently, for the LIU Post Wind Symphony, which received performances in Beijing and Xi'an, China during the summer of 2012.

Michael is winner of two Awards of Merit from the Global Music Awards (2012) for his works "Big Sky Country," in the ‘composition’ category, and "Inner City Sounds," in the ‘student band’ category.
