Personal Statement
my training and experience has been geared toward cultivating the minds of students and helping them to develop into well-rounded, responsible individuals. Throughout my teaching experience, I have been given ample opportunities to teach children that were absolute beginners level as well as the most advanced levels. As a result, I feel genuinely prepared to design creative and stimulating lesson plans which will accommodate multiple intelligences and will keep my students interested.
Education / Training
Violinist Ying Chai was born into a musical family in Shanghai and began her studies at age five. At the age of eleven, she was admitted to the Affiliated Music Middle School of Shanghai Conservatory. In 1996, she was the winner of the Shanghai Conservatory’s Bach and Mozart Violin Competition.

Ms. Chai received her master’s degree under full scholarship from The Juilliard School. She pursued her professional studies at Manhattan School of Music, where she continues her studies with the Concertmaster of New York Philharmonic Glenn Dicterow.

As the recipient of numerous awards and honors: the 2005 “Extraordinary Talent” award from the New York Philharmonic Scholarship Foundation; Samuel Gardner Award from The Juilliard School in 2004; the 2003 Morse and Concert Fellowship from The Juilliard School; the Special Jury Prize, at 2002 Pablo Sarasate International Violin Competitions; Winner of the 2001 Musicordia Concerto Competition; Winner of the 2000 National Society of Arts and Letters Violin Competition; Winner of the 2000 Lynn University Concerto Competition and the 1999 Wallenstein International Violin Competition. She has performed as both soloist and chamber musician throughout Asia and the United States.

Ms. Chai has participated in the Shanghai Arts Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Verbier Festival, and Keshet Elion Violin Master Course. She has also been a teaching assistant as well as a solo performer at the Bowdoin Music Festival. She has participated in master classes with Ida Haendel, Shlomo Mintz, Cho-Liang Lin, Yfrah Neaman, and Haim Taub.

Ms. Chai is a tenued memeber of Grant Park Symphony Orchestra. She also frequently perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Lyric Opera.

When she has free time, Ms. Chai enjoys playing tennis, bike riding and traveling.
