Education / Training
Loretta Lanning, a native of Grand Rapids, MI, is a pianist and teacher residing in Lansing, MI. She manages an active private studio and performs solo and collaboratively with local players, such as the Con Anima Duo with cellist Igor Cetkovic.
Loretta enjoys teaching in many subjects, and has taught music, Latin, speech and writing classes in addition to private piano lessons. With six years of professional teaching experience, she specializes in group piano lessons that instill life-long musical skills in young players. She is a member of MMTA, MTNA, and Pi Kappa Lambda. Recently, Loretta has begun studies with John Bloomfield, a noted Taubman instructor in Manhattan, NY.

Loretta recently graduated with a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. She studied with Dr. Alexandra Mascolo-David and pedagogy with Dr. Adrienne Wiley. At Central, she was awarded an assistantship and as part of that, she taught piano classes and accompanied vocalists and instrumentalists. Loretta has performed solo and collaborative recitals all over the Western and Mid-Michigan areas, and is in demand as a personal event player.

In 2008, she graduated with a B. A. in Piano and Classical Languages from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, having studied piano with the Van Cliburn medalist Aviram Reichert and pedagogy with Dr. Helen Marlais. While at Grand Valley, Loretta received the Upper Division scholarship and a Leadership award. She also studied carillon with Juliannne VandenWyngaard at Grand Valley, and was inducted into the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America in 2006. She has performed regularly on the Grand Valley carillon towers and also on other carillons, including Harkness Tower at Yale University and the Shapard Tower at the University of the South in Sewanee.
