Take private tabla lessons with Suphala, one of the most versatile young tabla artists making music today. Suphala is a protégé of the great tabla masters Ustad Allarakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain, whose constant inspiration compels her not only to dedicate herself to the study of Indian classical music but also to extend the reach of the tabla into an ever-growing variety of musical genres and cultural contexts
With three groundbreaking solo albums and a roster of high-profile collaborators including Norah Jones, Timbaland, Edie Brickell and Yoko Ono, Suphala continues to combine a deep understanding of the proud legacy of the tabla with a passionate commitment to expand the scope of its expression and to communicate it to the wider world.
Education / Training
Suphala has trained over 15 years with Ustad Zakir Hussain, considered the world's greatest master of the tabla, and previously with the late great Ustad Allarakha (father and teacher of Ustad Zakir Hussain). Suphala travels to India every year to further her study of tabla and began teaching over 10 years ago at the suggestion of her teacher.
