I base each lesson on the studentís specific musical interests while maintaining special awareness of their environment and program to which the student may already be a part of. I will always try to make lessons applicable to the studentís immediate needs and goals, in and outside of music. Students should be prepared to answer a few simple questions about themselves such as: What is your favorite instrument? What inspired/motivated you to play music? What music do you hear often or enjoy listening to? Based on answers to these and similar questions I customize a curriculum for the student, incorporating traditional and neo-traditional literature and teaching styles to encourage positive technical development, appreciation, and performance of the musical arts.
Education / Training
Beginning my musical training in grade school with my piano teacher Burres Bean who continues to be an inspiration for me, I developed a love for the challenges and joys of music and what it can do for people. Moving through middle and high school my band director, Scott Shephard, encouraged me to continue to strive for excellence and is still a model of perseverance and focus. In the spring of 2008 I received my Bachelors of Music Gen. Instrumental/Band from the University of North Texas at which I studied with Doctor Robert Schietroma, Mark Ford, Paul Rennick, Christopher Dean, Michael Drake, Henry Okstel, Ed Smith, Poovalur Sriji, and many other professors while attaining my education degree. Other notable teachers include Kenneth Green, associate professor at NSU, and Gary Parks, principal timpanist for the Symphony of Southeast Texas, along with countless colleagues and music enthusiasts who continue to show me new perspectives and tricks of the trade to this day.
