Personal Statement
Blaire Koerner is a freelance bassoonist, educator, and entrepreneur. Having completed her Masters of Music at Eastman School of Music in 2015, she stayed to complete a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Bassoon Performance and Literature.

At a time when classical music is being diminished from American childhood education and experience, Blaire strives to re-enforce music's importance and availability through a variety of efforts and collaborations including innovative performances, educational initiatives, and technologically-infused endeavors.

As a New York State bassoonist, Blaire has performed in a variety of large ensembles, operas, musicals, recitals, and studio recordings. Some ensembles she’s worked with include Ensemble Signal, Society for Chamber Music Rochester, and Syracuse’s orchestra Symphoria. She belongs to the Eastman Community Music School faculty wind quintet and plays in a variety of chamber settings focusing on outreach and community engagement. In addition, Blaire has performed internationally in Austria, Italy, Germany, France, and Switzerland with American Music Abroad and the contemporary soundSCAPE Festival.

A seasoned bassoon teacher, Blaire maintains a private studio of all ages and experience levels. She is the adjunct bassoon instructor at Syracuse University's Setnor School of Music. In addition, she teaches bassoon and wind chamber ensembles at the Eastman Community Music School (ECSM), in Rochester, NY, where she recently received the Jack L. Frank Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2016. From 2015-2018, Blaire also taught secondary bassoon lessons at the Eastman School of Music.

An avid entrepreneur, Blaire actively pursues opportunities to understand all aspects of the music field and to hone the necessary skills in a “Do-It-Yourself” market. Blaire is a Board Member of Rochester’s Pegasus Early Music, has been published in The Eastman Case Studies, and works to develop internationally available online courses which focus on both theory and entrepreneurial studies. Starting in Fall 2018, Blaire will be the new Eastman Career Advisor at the Office of Career and Professional Development and the new University of Rochester arts community advisor at the Gwen M Greene Center for Career Education and Connections - assisting students in exploring their musical goals and preparing for a lifetime of music.
