TMYO's Orchestras and newly appointed Conducting Staff: Conductor & TMYO Music Director, William Wiedrich Dr. William Wiedrich, Music Director, is associate professor of conducting at the University of South Florida School of Music where he conducts the USF Symphony Orchestra and Opera Theatre. He heads the graduate program in conducting, and maintains a large private studio of conducting students across the state of Florida. Before his appointment in Tampa, Dr. Wiedrich held faculty conducting positions at East Carolina University and Michigan State University, and visiting professor and conductor at the University of Michigan where he later earned his doctorate. His teachers include Gustav Meier, H. Robert Reynolds, and Larry Rachleff, as well as Gunther Schuller at the Festival at Sandpoint. He has also attended the conducting seminar at Tanglewood. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Quorum, a professional contemporary music ensemble, and is a founding member of newmusic, a similar ensemble in the Tampa Bay area. He has conducted the Tampa Bay Youth Symphony in Carnegie Hall, and has led the orchestra in a commissioning project that has produced significant new works for young orchestras. A published composer and arranger, Dr. Wiedrich is in demand as a clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States. Ensembles with whom he has collaborated have consistently received praise for their sensitive performances. Symphonic Orchestra Advanced Full Orchestra, student age 15-21 Dr. Wiedrich, Conductor Philharmonic Orchestra Intermediate Full Orchestra, students age 10-16 Conductor, Jason Jerald: Director of Orchestral Studies at Blake School of the Arts. Mr. Jerald has served as a chairperson and guest clinician for several All-County events and currently serves on the Florida Orchestra Association Board as the 11th/12th grade chairperson. He also maintains an active and diverse performing career as both violist and violinist. Symphonic Strings Intermediate Full Orchestra, students age 6-15 Conductor, Sandy Neel: Director of Orchestras at Burns Middle School. With 25 years as devoted music educator and pioneer for music education in Hillsborough County schools, Mrs. Neel has generated curriculum for the young string musician grades 7-12. She was instrumental in devising curriculum for the performing arts wheel, served as founder of the Hillsborough All County Orchestra, and has developed and led elementary string programs recognized as Music Demonstration string ensembles by the Department of Education. String Concertino String Orchestra, students age 6-10 Conductor, Colleen Strom: Orchestra Director, Benito Middle School, Mrs. Strom's students continue to earn the highest performance honors including selection to All State Orchestra and All County Honor Orchestra, and superior ratings at Solo and Ensemble Festivals and Music Performance Assessments. Mrs. Strom is the violist in the Rosewood String Quartet.
