Founded as the Dushkin School of Music, the school is the oldest and largest community music school in Illinois. It offers instruction in piano, voice, string, wind, brass and percussion instruments as well as classes in musicianship, a Suzuki program and early childhood classes. The Music Institute sponsors a multi-level orchestra program, chamber music program, a community chorus, a children’s choir and community band. Over 2,500 are enrolled - from pre-school children to senior citizens - in applied music, classes and performance programs. Special arts therapy classes are provided by The Institute for Therapy through the Arts (ITA) for approximately 2,000 clients of all ages with learning, social, physical and emotional disabilities. The Music Institute also operates campuses in Evanston, Lincolnshire and Chicago.
