Becoming a professional musician requires talent and commitment. But it also takes the right educational environment - one-on-one training with master teachers, strong ensembles, chamber music experiences and distinct opportunities to develop your performance skills. At the Carnegie Mellon University School of Music, accomplished musicians and aspiring talent challenge each other to reach beyond themselves and to create music in new and original ways. Three hundred fifty elite young musicians are taught by over 90 world-class performing artists, composers, scholars, and teachers, with the majority of the studio teaching faculty holding seats as principals or co-principals of the Pittsburgh Symphony. Current graduate and undergraduate students already hold seats in a variety of professional positions in local opera and stage companies. The School of Music draws not only from the rich cultural and musical resources of the city of Pittsburgh, but also from Carnegie Mellon's greater academic environment - an environment which honors and nurtures excellence in the arts and sciences. Today's complete musician must be an entrepreneur with a keen eye for opportunity, have a solid business sense, the courage to travel around the world, and the willingness to embrace technology. Nowhere will you build a more solid foundation than at Carnegie Mellon.
