Located at the geographic heart of Long Island, Five Towns College has been preparing students for work in all phases of the entertainment industry for over 25 years. An independent, nonsectarian, coeducational institution, Five Towns College was initially founded by a group of Long Islanders who sought to provide students with an alternative to the "large university" experience. Indeed, FTC is a small college that values the individuality of each student. Today over 1100 students come to study at the College's suburban campus at Dix Hills, New York, from every corner of the globe. They pursue degree programs with 30 major areas of study. Students are drawn to the College because of its reputation in music and the performing arts. The contemporary music programs at FTC are easily distinguished from classical music programs offered by other institutions. Indeed, Five Towns College was the first institution in New York State to offer a jazz/commercial music curriculum, and is considered the preeminent school in the region for music business and the recording arts and sciences.
